Frequently asked questions
- What is NLP?
NLP was initially developed by Dr.Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the 1970s and continues to be a growing and evolving field.
- What is hypnotherapy?
Being in a trance state is a natural state to be in, we do it all the time! Driving a car, watching TV, times when you are aware but sometimes have the 'where am I, what was I doing?' reaction. Daydreaming is the classic example of this sort of experience, where the imagination takes more of a role in our awareness, and the world around us seemingly takes a back seat whilst we float amongst our internal images, thoughts and feelings.
Hypnotherapy utilises these natural states allowing us to give reminders to ourselves about the positive changes we want to make.
- How does hypnotherapy work?
Mind body and emotion are all linked together. Your body is a beautifully evolved machine, comprising, among other things, muscles that can be trained to a peak of fitness and nerves that control the muscles. The nerves are massively linked in your brain: vast numbers of nerve cells are linked with a hugely greater number of interconnections.
Much of the process of learning and improving our skills is the laying down, modification, and strengthening of nerve pathways in our body and brains. Some of these nerve pathways lie outside out brain in nerves of the body and spine. These need to be trained by physical training.
Many of the pathways, however, lie within the brain. These pathways can be effectively trained by the use of mental techniques hypnotherapy offers, such as imagery and simulation.
Imagery allows us to practice and prepare for events and eventualities before they have happened. With a little practice and guidance we can enter a situation we have never physically experienced with the feeling that we have been there before and achieved whatever we are trying to achieve - we can imagine and model our personal future!
Understanding how we are wired and the importance of visualisation opens up the possibility to change many aspects of who and how we are. Examples include increasing confidence, changing behaviour, changing habits and increasing motivation.
- What does being hypnotized feel like?
- When hypnotized will I be in control?
All hypnosis is essentially self hypnosis. As a clinical hypnotherapist I act as your guide into trance , the experience is entirely owned by you. If at any stage for any reason you want the experience to end you can simply open your eyes, or deepen the experience if you wish. You are entirely in control.
